Rio part 2

Well, it´s been an amazing journey thus far. Started out in Rio and saw all the sites...Christo, Sugar Hill, etc. I have been amazed by the Christ statue for years and seeing it up close was all I had imagined. I lucked out and the views from the top were amazing and I could finally get a sense of the whole city. It is as if the buildings are intertwined with the countryside and hills. Sunday, the sun finally came out and half the city seemed to hit the beach. I definitely stood out in my normal (long in Rio standards) boardshorts, but couldn´t make myself purchase the tight speedos! That night I went to a soccer match at Maracana. Flamengo v. Atletico. Probably the best sporting event I have ever been to. 70k + people. The enthusiasm and passion of the fans was incredible. Monday, caught a bus to Sao Paulo and am currently staying with a friend. This city is so big, it is nice to have someone know where to go. Portuguese is definitely challenging...I keep wanting to speak Spanish, but there is so much disconnect it is best to just use sign language/hand signals.

I can´t post many pictures on this blog, but in the first post I put the link to my photo album on Picassa. That is where I will put everything

Hope everyone is doing well. I will be in Sao Paulo a few days and then off to either Florinopolis or Iguazu Falls.

  5. I hate socer. it's so pointless. they run up and down with the ball. no whistles, so they never stop. the ball goes out of bounce and the other team just gets it and starts playing. what a joke. they shoot the ball like 2 times a game and never scor!!! The clock never stops either, so when 90 minutes is up, the game is not even over. they play to same random number like 97:32 minutes. after all that time the score is still nill to nill, or if you are american zero to zero, they play another 45 minutes of overtime. only 45 minutes is not really 45 minutes, its 46:18 or something stupid. then they go to the good old fashion shoot out. the very worst event in all of sports. So after 143 and a half minutes of running up and down a huge field and never scoring a freaking goal, all of a sudden they can't miss and everyone starts scoring goals. back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. then one time the long haired goalie guesses in the right direction as the mowhawk/duck tailed guy shoots the ball. a deflection, and the game is over. ????????WHAT???????? everyone runs around jumping on each other and then they take thier cleats off throw them into the stands. then they take their jersey off and trade with the other team. then they walk off the field barefoot and with someone else sweaty jersey over their shoulder. SOCER SUCKS. I HATE IT.
